PUTRAJAYA, July 8 (Bernama) -- Two people died of dengue fever in the first week of Ramadan, from June 29 to July 5, raising to 87 the death toll from the disease from January to now compared to 27 in the corresponding period last year.Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, in disclosing the statistics today, said the latest deaths occurred in Selangor and Sabah.He also said that the number of reported dengue fever cases for the week was 2,163, with Selangor registering the highest among the states at 1,036.Kelantan was next with 309; then the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (204); Perak (122); Negeri Sembilan (120); Johor (108); Sarawak (61);
Melaka (55); Penang (41); Pahang (33); Sabah (25); Terengganu (20); Kedah (19); Perlis (10) and Labuan (zero), he added. Subramaniam spoke to reporters after a meeting with Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil at the ministry here.He said the number of dengue fever cases between January and now was 46,681
compared to 13,483 during the corresponding period last year.
