PAHANG-DENGUE-DENGUE FEVER CLAIMS FIRST VICTIM IN PAHANG

KUANTAN,Dengue fever claimed its first victim in Pahang this year with the death of a senior citizen on June 16 while receiving treatment at Sultan Ahmad Shah Hospital, Temerloh.Pahang Health Department director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail said there is cause for worry as dengue fever cases rose by 140 percent from January to July 22 compared to the corresponding period last year."Dengue fever rose from 309 cases to 742 cases or an increase of 433 cases.
Kuantan district recorded the highest with 378 cases or 50.9 per cent rise," he said in a statement, here today.
Temerloh was next with 98 cases followed by Jerantut (83 cases), Maran (51 cases), Raub (46 cases), Bentong (28 cases), Bera (20 cases), Pekan (13 cases), Lipis (13 cases), Rompin (9 cases) and Cameron Highlands (3 cases).
PAHANG-DENGUE 2 (LAST) KUANTAN
Pahang has seven active localities of which five are in Kuantan district namely Apartment Bailey Court, Air Putih (4 cases), Perumahan Sungai Isap 2 (3 cases), Felda Bukit Sagu 1 (7 cases), Taman Tas Selatan (4 cases) and Sungai Isap 2 (2 cases).The two other active localities are in Jerantut district namely Felda Kota Gelanggi 1 (6 cases) and Taman Inderapura (7 cases).Dr Norhizan said that many mosquito breeding grounds were found inside and outside homes of residents in the dengue outbreak areas.He urged the public to take preventive measures such as removing stagnant
water and using larvae drugs to check dengue fever cases from rising.
