INDIAN STATE REPORTS 50,000 NEW CANCER PATIENTS EVERY YEAR

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM,An average 50,000 new cancer cases are reported in India's southern state of Kerala every year, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported. Health Minister V S Shivakumar said at the Legislative Assembly on Thursday
that the government was aware of the situation and had taken several steps to provide quality treatment to cancer patients. "The focus is to ensure that cancer treatment facilities are available in all medical colleges and general hospitals," he said. Shivakumar was replying to a question on the availability of cancer treatment facilities in medical colleges. He said plans are under way to set up Regional Cancer Centres in five government medical colleges and to upgrade these to a National Cancer Centre.
