DENGUE-KELANTAN/BM DENGUE CASES IN KELANTAN ON THE RISE - KELANTAN HEALTH DEPT

KOTA BAHARU,The number of dengue cases in Kelantan rose by 570 within seven days said Kelantan Health Department director Datuk Dr Ahmad Razin Ahmad Mahir.He said up till July 12, the number of cases was 3,468 compared with 2,898 a week earlier."There was an increase of 391 percent compared to the same period last year (January to July 12)," he told Bernama here today, adding that hospitals in the state were capable of handling the number of dengue patients.He said Kota Baharu district recorded the highest incidence of dengue (80 percent), followed by Tumpat (8.5 percent) and Bachok (3.1 percent). "There are too many mosquito breeding places, especially in homes, and operations to destroy them are being carried out," he said. Dr Ahmad Razin said the people have been advised to use insect sprays and
mosquito repellents to eradicate Aedes."We have also asked the manufacturers to offer discounted prices for such products to consumers as part of their corporate social responsibility," he said.
