KOTA BAHARU, The Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZII) here is to seek the cooperation of the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM) in Kubang Kerian to handle some of the rising number of dengue fever cases that have reached near-capacity at the HRPZII. Its director, Datuk Dr Ghazali Hasni Md Hassan, said today a meeting would
be held shortly with HUSM to discuss placement of patients and increasing the number of beds at HUSM. HRPZII only had the capacity to handle a maximum of 180 dengue fever patients and the number of these patients at the hospital now was 174, of whom 22 were in intensive care, he said. "We were informed by the State Health Department to hold the discussions with HUSM as we have almost reached our maximum capacity in terms of patients," he told reporters after visiting dengue fever patients at HRPZII. Dr Ghazali Hasni also said that HRPZII had to deploy doctors, nurses and other staff from the other departments of the hospital to the medical department to handle the high number of dengue fever patients.
