BEIJING, While China has not recorded any Ebola case, it adopted a series of precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the deadly Ebola virus into the country.
Apart from stepping up customs checks at the country's entry points to prevent transmission from travellers, China's National Health and Family PlanningCommission (NHFPC) is in regular communication with World Health Organisation (WHO) to better monitor and predict the spread of the virus.
Xinhua news agency quoted government health commission spokesman Song Shuli as saying that under the government prevention and control plan, any Ebola case - regardless confirmed or suspected ones reported at local medical institutions - should be reported promptly (within two hours) to the NHFPC.
According to a statement released by WHO on Wednesday, the death toll from the Ebola virus has reached 932 and the number of the cases stands at 1,711, as of Aug 4.
Song however, remained optimistic that risk of the virus spreading beyond Africa was still low.
On July 30, a Hong Kong woman returning from Kenya with suspected Ebola symptoms tested negative for the disease.
