AIR-QUALITY (MORNING)/BM [NEWS] AIR QUALITY UNHEALTHY IN SARAWAK'S SRI AMAN AS AT 7 AM MONDAY

KUALA LUMPUR, Air quality was at the unhealthy level in Sri Aman, Sarawak, as at 7 am today, according to the Department of Environment (DoE). The DoE portal showed an Air Pollutant Index (API) of 117 for the town. It also showed air quality to be at the moderate level in 18 places, among them Shah Alam, Selangor (with an API of 58), Seri Manjung, Perak (52), Alor Setar, Kedah (53) and Kuching, Sarawak (57). Thirty-three places had good air quality, among them Putrajaya (39), Seremban (46), Kemaman, Terengganu (46) and Muar, Johor (22), according to the portal. An API reading of between zero and 50 indicates good air quality; between 51 and 100, moderate; between 101 and 200, unhealthy; between 201 and 300, very unhealthy and over 301, hazardous. Members of the public can refer to the DOE portal at http://www.doe.gov.my to find out the API reading for their areas.
